Kids & Teens

Your Hero Rules

RULE 01

Your Password = Your Superpower

  • Use long passphrases (four random words work great) and 2FA.
  • Never share passwords — not with friends or classmates. Ask a parent if you need help.
  • Avoid names, birthdays, and obvious patterns.

RULE 02

Think Before You Click

  • Ignore pop-ups that promise prizes or "free coins."
  • If a link feels odd or rushed, stop and ask an adult.
  • When in doubt, go to the website by typing it yourself.

RULE 03

Talk to People You Know

  • Only chat or play with real-life friends.
  • Never share photos, school name, address, or schedules.
  • If someone pressures you for secrets, tell a trusted adult immediately.

RULE 04

Think Before You Share

  • If it wouldn't be okay forever, don't post it.
  • Keep locations private; avoid photos that reveal your home or school.
  • Remember: deleted doesn't always mean gone.

RULE 05

Play It Safe in Games

  • Use usernames that don't reveal who you are.
  • Don't accept links or files from players.
  • Block and report bullies; speak to a parent or teacher.

RULE 06

Ask for Help — That's a Hero Move

  • If something feels scary, mean, or confusing — tell an adult.
  • It's never your fault if someone misbehaves online.
  • Heroes call their team when things get serious.

RULE 07

Lock Your Gear

  • Use a PIN/biometrics; lock your screen when done.
  • Don't lend devices without permission.
  • If you lose a device, tell your parents immediately.

RULE 08

Be Kind Online

  • Don't spread rumors or post mean comments.
  • Support classmates who are being bullied.
  • Kindness is your strongest power.

RULE 09

Balance On-Screen & Off

  • Take breaks every hour; move your body and rest your eyes.
  • Avoid screens before bed; sleep fuels real-world power.
  • Draw, read, play sports — train your hands and your heart.

RULE 10

If It Feels Wrong — Tell Someone

  • Stop. Don't reply. Show a trusted adult.
  • Save evidence (screenshots) if instructed by an adult.
  • Protect yourself and others by speaking up.

Practical Guides

Guardians, Educators & Ops

ACCOUNTS & IDENTITY

  • Set up a family password manager; keep recovery email/phone current.
  • Enable 2FA (prefer app-based) on email, school portals, cloud, and gaming platforms.
  • Create child/teen accounts with age-appropriate permissions on devices and consoles.

DEVICES & CONTENT

  • Turn on automatic updates and SafeSearch/parental filters.
  • Restrict installs to trusted stores; review app permissions monthly.
  • Use screen-time schedules and device-free zones (e.g., bedrooms at night).

NETWORKS & PAYMENTS

  • Use WPA2/WPA3, change default router admin, and disable WPS.
  • Separate IoT on a guest network; consider DNS filtering for home.
  • Disable in-app purchases or require approval; use prepaid gift cards for game stores.

FAMILY CULTURE

  • Agree on a Family Cyber Agreement: what's okay to share, when to ask, and where to get help.
  • Run a monthly "Cyber Check-in" to update passwords, privacy settings, and backups.
  • Model behaviour: no phones at dinner, thoughtful sharing, and respectful online conduct.

AWARENESS

  • Mandatory phishing drills and classroom mini-lessons (5 minutes a week).
  • Age-appropriate acceptable-use policies; student-friendly reporting paths.

NETWORK & DEVICES

  • Secure Wi-Fi by role (staff/student/guest) and filter known malicious domains.
  • Patch devices regularly; inventory and disable unused accounts.

RESILIENCE

  • Back up LMS/content; test restores every term; practice incident response.

Spot & Stop Phishing

  • Check sender carefully, hover links, and distrust urgency.
  • Never enter passwords from email/DM links; go direct to the site.
  • Report suspicious emails to your provider or school IT.

Backups That Work

  • 3-2-1: 3 copies, 2 media, 1 off-site (cloud).
  • Automate daily; verify monthly via a test restore.
  • Keep licence keys/serials in the password manager.

Family Incident Plan

  • If compromised: disconnect Wi-Fi, change account passwords from a clean device, revoke sessions.
  • Scan devices; factory-reset if needed and restore from clean backups.
  • Report fraud to your bank/platform; keep screenshots for evidence.

PRO TIP

Add a monthly calendar reminder named "Cyber Check-in" — 15 minutes for passwords, updates, privacy, and backups.
