DEVICE SETUP ESSENTIALS

Secure Setup & Daily Use
PASSWORDS & SIGN-IN
- Use long, unique passwords (12+); consider a password manager.
- Enable 2FA — prefer authenticator apps over SMS.
- Teach "never share passwords" — even with friends.
- Set recovery email/phone for lockouts together.
SAFE APPS & BROWSERS
- Install only from official stores; verify publisher/reviews.
- Review permissions; disable extras (camera/mic/location).
- Turn on SafeSearch/Restricted Mode on search/YouTube.
- Use a light content blocker to reduce malicious pop-ups.
HOME NETWORK
- Use WPA3/WPA2 with a strong passphrase; change router admin password.

SCREEN TIME & WELLBEING
- Device-free zones (meals, homework, 60–90 min before bed).

- Balance consumption with creation (coding, art, projects).
TRUST & ROUTINE

Part 3
If Something Goes Wrong
Stay Calm & Supportive
- Don't panic or blame; thank them for telling you.
- Reassure: "You're not in trouble — we'll fix this together."
- Keep them close; don't confiscate devices in panic.
Talk & Listen
- Ask: "What happened that made you uncomfortable?"
- Listen fully; reflect back to validate feelings.
Collect Evidence
- Screenshot messages, usernames, links, transaction IDs.
- Note dates/times and platform names.
- Preserve devices/accounts; don't delete anything yet.
Secure Accounts
- Change passwords; enable/refresh 2FA.
- Revoke unknown sessions; remove risky apps/extensions.
- Run reputable anti-malware.
Report & Escalate
- Report and block within the app or game.
- For grooming/blackmail/explicit content, report to cybercrime authorities.
- Inform the school if peers are involved.
Care & Recovery
- Offer ongoing check-ins; watch for delayed stress reactions.
- See a licensed child psychologist if trauma indicators appear.
- Rebuild confidence with positive online activities.
