Classroom Playbook
Practical steps, classroom routines, and safeguarding workflows for teachers.
STEP 01
Build a Safe Digital Classroom
- Use approved platforms; keep session links private; guest access off.
- Account hygiene: long passphrases; password manager; 2FA.
- Device discipline: lock screens; auto-lock timers; no grading on personal devices.
- Updates: set OS/browser/apps to auto-update; verify at term start.
STEP 02
Teach Cyber-Smart
- Integrate across subjects — English: spot fakes; Science: how data travels.
- Use Defenderon comics — prompts like "How would CyKnight respond?"
- Relatable language: passwords = "digital keys"; phishing = "free sweets from a stranger".
- Hero Challenges: weekly micro-actions; celebrate small wins.
STEP 03
Recognise & Escalate
- Watch for behaviour shifts, device avoidance, secretive screens.
- Document neutrally; gather screenshots if policy allows.
- Inform the safeguarding lead; never promise secrecy.
STEP 04
Handle Classroom Cyberbullying
- Listen first; stay neutral; collect evidence calmly.
- Follow policy; involve counsellor/admin; contact parents per policy.
- Culture: "If it isn't kind, it doesn't go online."
STEP 05
Teacher Conduct & Digital Identity
- Separate school vs personal accounts; no personal DMs with students.
- Permissions for student media; follow consent and storage rules.
- Report suspicious links/messages to IT; don't investigate alone.
